#FreeTheCraftLicenses: CANNABIS LICENSE APPLICANTS
FACING FINANCIAL RUIN WILL RALLY VIRTUALLY TO CALL ON
GOV. PRITZKER TO RELEASE CRAFT CANNABIS LICENSES BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE
WHAT: Rally via ZOOM. Due to inclement weather, previously scheduled in-person rally at Thompson Center moved ONLINE.
WHEN: 5:00PM on December 23, 2020. Email info@ilcraft.org to participate.
WHO: Members of the Illinois Craft Cannabis Association, representing craft grower, infuser and transport applicants and the craft cannabis community will meet virtually using Zoom to launch our ACTION NOW campaign in protest of Illinois’ failure to issue craft cannabis licenses. Representative Lashawn Ford, a strong advocate for Social Equity and the Craft Cannabis Community, is planning to join us for the Zoom Rally today.
WHY: Applicants have incurred extreme hardship and financial loss due to the Administration’s delay of the statutory July 1, 2020 license award date. A conservative estimate of the total additional and unexpected cost for the 455 Craft Grower, 115 Infuser, and 250 Transporter applicants per month of delay is $5 million or $25+ million as of this release. We can’t sleep at night while this drags on. We struggle daily with whether to stay compliant with the application process or to cut our heavy losses. The applicants who don’t have millions to weather the storm are the most vulnerable. Governor Pritzker promised Illinois would be the most social-equity centric state for cannabis. So far, Governor Pritzker has not kept his promise. The delay has made Illinois’ program anti-social equity; the direct opposite of his intent.
We need ACTION NOW! We call on Governor Pritzker to #FreeTheCraftLicenses immediately so this community can move forward, start healing from past harms, and begin contributing to the financial health of our Communities and Illinois.
